Surprise, Dee and I got married. It happened on June 14, 2008 in Deep Cove, near North Vancouver. We were on the Coast to go and see Cirque du Soleil, ride our bikes, and enjoy the long weekend. To add to the mix about a week and a half before Dee and I decided that it would be a good idea to elope.
On Friday we met Tess and Loïc in Vancouver and went for a bike ride on Seymor. We proceeded to get completely lost, and ended up hike-a-biking for two and a half hours. Eventually we all gave into our stubbornness and decided to go back on the same trail (more or less) that we had been hiking up. Going down was a lot easier and faster J Friday night we camped under the Lions Gate Bridge and crashed early. I love saying that we camped there because it sounds so ghetto, but in fact it was quite a nice campground for such an urban environment. It was a little loud, but the four of us stayed there for $30, which is a lot cheaper than a hotel.
On Saturday we went into Deep Cove, got a coffee and a cinnamon bun, and walked down to the beach. As the Justice of the Peace was walking towards us, I turned to Tess and Loïc and said “oh ya, we’re here to get married”. Needless to say, they were shocked! We proceeded to head down to the beach, say our “I do’s” and bid the JP good bye. The four of us then rented sea kayaks for ½ an hour before heading to the Vancouver Aquarium. It was great!
After the aquarium we checked into our hotel and got ready for Cirque. Everyone knows how cheap Dee and I are, and Tess and Loïc are no different. Despite the fact that it was our wedding night, we chose to share our room with them, as we had already planned to do so months in advance before any of the wedding craziness was ever arranged. Once ready, we met Trevor who guided us to a great tapas restaurant with really funky atmosphere. After, we walked to Cirque and were blown away by the performance. It was probably one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. I had no idea people could be the strong, creative, and flexible. I won’t try to explain any more as I will not do it justice. After Cirque, we split up, Dee and Tess went back to the Hotel and Loïc and I went to go clubbing, but only ended up waiting in line and people watching on Granville.
The next day we went for a fantastic ride on Burnaby Mountain before heading back to the Okanagan for work on Monday. It was a great weekend, and one that will be hard to upstage. We fit a lot into a short amount of time, which seems to be a common theme for our lives, which are now bonded together into perpetuity.

Congratulations you two! Good work.
