The threat of winter has finally hit Kelowna, however there has been no snow yet. Feeling the cold temperatures, preying to Ular while pineing for fresh powder we decided to accompany Tess and Loïc to the Rogers Pass for a two day ski trip. We arrived mid morning on Saturday, and quickly realized that many other people had the same thought. The parking lot was packed! On Saturday we headed up Grizzly Ridge and found some great turns through the trees, and introducing Dee to her first backcountry ski experience. Based on the size of her smile, I'd venture to say she like the bottomless Pow Pow. Sunday saw us head up to Balu Pass. After the long trek, and feeling the exhaustion from the day before, Dee only had one run in her, but it was a sweet one. There was so much snow it was difficult to get giong on the slope. We needed to find something steeper, but energy was low. We headed back to the car, and I picked Pico up. He and I headed back up Grizzly Ridge. I have never seen to much chaos, excitment, energy, exhaustion, and exuberation from the dog all at the same time. He led me up the skin track, and floundered through the powder on the way down. It was comical to see him bounding through the snow and to watch the occasional time where he would literally do summer saults because of the steep slope, huge amounts of snow, and lack of coordination.
