Clearwater Kayak Festival

The weather forecast for this past weekend was for cloud, rain, and thunder showers. Not your typical Okanagan weekend in July. I thought that there were few other ways in which I could thoroughly enjoy myself other than on the river. I was going to be wet anyways right? So I headed up to the Clearwater River in Clearwater, BC, just north of Kamloops. Never having been to the river before, I only had the reputation and stories that I heard from other boaters in the community. The car ride to the river was one of reflection, wonder and nerves. The Clearwater has a reputation of being a big volume river, with rapids named Tsunami, Mosh Pit, The Wall, M87, Demise, and Sharks Fin. All of which sent shivers down my spine.

Having arrived late on Friday night, I went to bed early in preparation for the journey the following morning. I have paddled some big water in the past, and the Clearwater's reputation lived up to the expectation of sphincter clenching fun! We paddled both Saturday and Sunday, each day providing new and exciting challenges. It wasn’t until Sunday though that I realized that I had brought my camera, and decided to take a few pictures of the group going into and through the wall. Other pictures were taken by our friend Michelle when she wasn’t being our fabulous vehicle shuttle queen. The weekend was made by great company and guidance down the river, some excellent surf's, entertaining music, and fantastic rollercoaster rides down the various wave trains.
