Life is Good, but it goes fast!

Phewf! Based on the last Blog post, it appears as though winter flew by, spring has sprung and we are now getting ready for summer - at least the extended Okanagan summer which spans from May through October, while much of the rest of the country is still getting snow.

Winter
Well, we didn't get as much skiing in as we would have liked this year. Snow conditions have been sketchy since January, and before then it was a combination of the Simon show (as it is everyday), holiday preparation, and general chaos in life. We did manage to get one day of backcountry skiing in with Simon. I dragged him into the first bowl at Malakawa. It was probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and definitely would not have been able to do it without some serious help from Pete and Yan. Turns were good, Simon loved the snow, and the ski down was fun. He was in his chariot that was outfitted with cross country skis. Turns out, they didn't fair so well in the deep snow, so we took them off and I bombed him down dragging the Chariot on its chassis. He ended up on his side a bunch of times, but every time I checked, he was fast a sleep bundled up in his snow suit. Looked like a lot of fun though. Outside of that adventure, we did a lot of cross country skiing, where once again I dragged him around the trails every time (it was great exercise), I played some squash and tried to keep my head above water.

Spring
Spring sprung early this year. We have been riding bikes since early February, and have been dedicated to pushing pedals since mid March. It's been a great season so far as we have travelled to Penticton and Salmon Arm to ride some great stuff. This time of year makes for great riding as the temperatures are not too hot. We have done a couple local hikes too, up to the top of Boucherie, Knox, and around town.

Simon
Simon is walking/running everywhere, establishing his own independence, saying a few words (his first was "duck", which scared Dee and I a little the first time he said it due to its similarity with other rhyming words), and generally being a rambunctious little boy. Geez, I wonder where he gets that from?

As you can tell, life has changed considerably since this time last year. Freedom is non existent, time is of the essence, and life revolves around Simon. Without such great friends and my parents it would be near impossible to squeak away for even a few minutes, let alone a day of riding. With all that we owe in uncollected babysitting fees I fear how we will be expected to re-pay.

We have few photos of our own adventures, however I have posted a couple of Simon at his fist birthday party, and other fun times since. Click here to check them out.

  1. Wow! What great pictures. Simon is super cute! I hear ya! Freedom and time is non-existant. I finally got biking last weekend, and I'm faster than ever...at losing my breath, and putting my feet down when it gets too hard.

Gone to Spokane this weekend, but if you're riding, give me a holla. Peace!
